Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Worcester, Massachusetts, is nestled peacefully on 430 acres of breathtaking woods, streams, fields, brooks, marshes, swamps, and walking trails. It is touted to be the largest sanctuary in New England. It was opened to the public in 1991 and is managed by the Massachusetts Audubon.
Broad Meadow Brook offers several programs, including:
- advocacy on protecting natural resources
- conservation on preserving the natural environment from threats
- education that focuses on hands-on learning experiences for people of all ages.
- Summer camps and vacation week camps are also provided for ages 4.5-16.
On my last visit to Massachusetts, I had the opportunity to visit Broad Meadow Brook and was not disappointed. There are five miles of hiking trails and so much to explore, but with limited time, I settled for a walk along Sprague Trail with my family.
Well-marked signs are positioned everywhere so you cannot get lost.
Upon entry, I was teleported from the hustle and bustle of Massasoit Road and the city into a land of fairies, where I experienced a delightful taste of nature.
Broad Meadow Brook is for lovers of the outdoors: Hikers, walkers, bird watchers, and nature photographers. It is a great place to spend quality time with the family of all ages.
The scenery is stunning, and you feel a sense of calm in this peaceful oasis which is just a few minutes from the city.
We meandered along the path, lingered at the bird observation area, gazed at the pond, took stunning photographs, and caught a glimpse of a deer crossing the trail.
Broad Meadow Brook is truly a gem and a place to escape from the stressors of life.
Broad Meadow Brook Conservation & Wildlife Sanctuary is located at 414 Massasoit Road, Worcester, MA 01604. The trails are open from dawn to dusk.
